The Simplicity Issue
it’s sunday morning
Sunday, February 5th 2023 - Welcome to Issue 4 of our weekly email where we gather 3 style, wellness, travel or music links worth some time on a slow Sunday morning. Make a cup of coffee, find your favorite chair and cue the Velvet Underground…
“Sunday morning, rain is falling
Steal some covers, share some skin
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave”
ONE Virtues of Simplicity
“The more you know, the less you need.” Entrepreneur Yvon Chouinard turned his back on a multi-billion dollar exit from Patagonia in favor of continuing to simplify his life and staying true to his values. I’ve been a long time fan of Patagonia’s business principals and decisions but, honestly, it’s Yvon’s personal quest towards simplicity that I find most inspiring. It’s a day-to-day challenge but worth the effort. In this podcast, he talks to The Surfer’s Journal about the virtues of simplicity, his recent restructuring of Patagonia’s future and - of course - surfing. (1 hour 11 min listen)
TWO Your Last Garment
“Developing hundreds of pieces per season is not only wasteful but lacks focus on each garment and drives design towards trends.” We couldn’t agree more. British luxury menswear startup Last Pick shares our views on limited releases & garments that last a lifetime. Their website has very little back story but, this Hypebeast article sheds some light on the brand ethos and process. (2 min read)
THREE Freedom in Limitation
I started shooting only black & white pictures a few years ago and I haven’t looked back. I’m drawn to the simplicity both as a photographer and as a fan of the art form. Alan Schaller is one of my favorite modern black & white photographers. In this video with Leica, Alan talks about simplifying his life and the creative power of limitation. (3 min 30 sec watch)
