“Sunday morning, rain is falling
Steal some covers, share some skin
Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave”
ONE A Way of Being
“Creativity is not a rare ability. It is not difficult to access. Creativity is a fundamental aspect of being human.” Music Producer Rick Rubin’s new book The Creative Act: A Way of Being is an awe inspiring look at human creativity, art, culture and mindfulness. Much like The Artist’s Way and The War of Art, this is a must read for the artist or the artist-curious. If you prefer podcasts over books, this episode from Broken Record offers a nice glimpse into the book through Rick’s conversation with Malcolm Gladwell.
TWO Japanese Pour Dyeing
We are incredibly inspired by Visvim. Their limited edition pieces feel like art, because they are. Designed and handmade in Japan using traditional finishing techniques and fabrics that age beautifully. One such technique - Chusen or “Japanese pour dyeing” - has been passed down for over 100 years. Artisans work silently with fabrics and dyes in a factory in Hamamatsu to create these unique patterns.
THREE Running, Music & Flow
I spend a lot of time trail running in the mountains around Bozeman, MT and the deserts around Joshua Tree, CA. I do it mainly for that flow state where my mind turns off and I just am. I’m moving through nature, 100% present, connected to the world around me and open to new ideas. A similar state can be found making and playing music. This article explores the crossover between running and making music and the musicians who power their creativity by going for a run.
