it’s sunday morning

Sunday, May 19th 2024 - Welcome to Issue 15 of our weekly email where we gather 3 style, art, travel or music links worth some time on a slow Sunday morning. Make a cup of coffee, find your favorite chair and cue the Velvet Underground… ✌️

“Sunday morning, rain is falling
Steal some covers, share some skin

Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave”

TWO AI in Music, Art & Culture

Perfection is the enemy of art.

Two of our favorite minds, Rick Beato and Ted Gioia discuss the effects of AI on music, art and culture (even coffee). Not gonna lie, this one takes an investment but we promise it’s worth it. Rick has emerged as the top music educator and critic on YouTube and Ted has a brilliant Substack that looks at cultural trends primarily through the lens of music. In this conversation, they discuss the cultural implications of AI and how authentic, human-made art is now more important than ever. (90 min watch)

THREE Meet Refik Anadol

Is it art? If so, who’s the artist?

Refik Anadol makes immersive video experiences using AI engines connected to large-scale biological datasets. Refik hit the scene in a big way about three years ago with his widely viewed TEDTalk, Art in the age of machine learning. Since, he’s done installations all over the world including the MOMA in New York and even a “machine hallucinations” installation on the exterior of The Sphere in Las Vegas. We personally experienced his MOMA last Summer and, admittedly, it was fascinating and even awe inspiring. A ghostly three dimensional object taking in physical data from the room and morphing/reacting in real-time. But, is it art? You decide. (2 min watch)
