The Go For A Run Issue

it’s sunday morning

Sunday, February 26th 2023 - Welcome to Issue 7 of our weekly email where we gather 3 style, wellness, travel or music links worth some time on a slow Sunday morning. Make a cup of coffee, find your favorite chair and cue the Velvet Underground…

“Sunday morning, rain is falling
Steal some covers, share some skin

Driving slow on Sunday morning
And I never want to leave”

ONE Missoula to Western States

Sometimes a good story is the best motivation to lace up your running shoes.

Adam Peterman has taken the ultra distance trail running (50 km to 100 mile) world by storm. Just one year after turning pro, he won a handful of major races including the Western States 100 miler in 2022 - the crown jewel of US ultra running. He grew up in my hometown and one of the best running communities in America - Missoula, Montana. This is his journey from Missoula trails to Western States champion. (17 min video)

Adam is sponsored by Hoka running shoes. The shoes aren’t the prettiest but, if you are new to running, dealing with nagging injuries or just putting in a lot of miles - I highly recommend you check them out. They saved my running career after a bad skiing knee injury almost ten years ago.

TWO Run to Vegas

The drive from Los Angeles to Las Vegas can be hell…maybe running it would be better?

If you haven’t already - meet Roark, a relatively new adventure-inspired clothing brand out of Southern California. They make the things you would expect…print button-ups, shorts, pants and graphic tees but, it’s their “Run Amok” running line that got our attention. Equal parts functional and rock-and-roll. Watch the Roark team participate in the Speed Project race from the Santa Monica Pier to Las Vegas via the high desert and Death Valley. (15 min video)

THREE But first…coffee

Morning runs are a coffee fueled meditation.

As challenging as it can be, a great cup of coffee followed by an early morning run can cleanse the soul, open the mind and brighten the day. Consider making that morning cup of coffee at home as part of your pre-run ritual. Take your time and do it with care. My favorite is a fresh grind in a French press then blended with almond butter. And, all roads lead back to Missoula if you are looking for the perfect beans. Black Coffee Roasting Co’s current winter blend “Drift” is especially good. If they are out of stock - no worries - their “Vinyl” blend is an equally good everyday staple.

Now make a cup of coffee and go for run. Peace.
